Thanks to their chemical cross-linking, reactive polyurethane hotmelt adhesives offer an irreversible bond that can withstand even high-temperature fluctuations and stresses caused by climatic influences.
This makes this type of adhesive ideal for use in manufacturing durable and resistant construction elements. Window and door production account for the majority by far.
However, there are many other areas of application for PUR hotmelt adhesives in the construction industry, such as garage doors, façades and privacy screens, to name just a few examples.

Profile wrapping and panel lamination are well-established surface finishing processes perfected over many years. They offer a highly productive, continuous production process that simultaneously enables flexible colour changes and varying quantities. Foil lamination with PUR adhesives is suitable for an almost unlimited variety of products: from small decorative mouldings and plug-in profiles for façades and wall cladding to large-format sheets and panels. Even fences and privacy screens as well as driveway and garage doors can be colour-coordinated and designed to match each other.
Decorative foils not only enhance the appearance of objects but also protect them sustainably and maintenance-free. These are all advantages over conventional processes such as painting. Architects and designers appreciate the large selection of colours, embossing, and decors that set new trends and offer their customers unlimited design possibilities.
TAKA has a range of particularly resistant polyurethane construction adhesives with which you can process all common decorative films for exterior applications. The weather resistance is continuously tested and monitored through a series of outdoor storage tests and accelerated ageing tests in climate chambers. Our own laboratories are available for this purpose, and we work with authorised laboratories such as the Italian CATAS or the SKZ in Germany for official certifications.
In addition to surface finishing, PUR hot melt adhesives are also used as assembly adhesives. They can be used to produce durable composite materials for the construction industry. One large field is composite panels, also known as sandwich panels, made from a wide variety of materials, which are adapted to the respective installation and environmental situations. Composite panels are ideal for lightweight construction, such as wall or roof panelling or for heat or cold insulation in cold stores, for example. TAKA’s construction adhesives also ensure that the end products are durable and weather-resistant.
Composite panels, laminates and honeycomb panels are usually built up layer by layer in a roller coater machine after a flat adhesive application and pressed in a calender. Depending on the materials, process temperatures and working speed, the PUR hot melt adhesive must have different characteristics in order to be processed without any problems. The right balance of viscosity, open time and initial adhesion must be found. At the same time, PUR hot melt adhesives for roller application must have a high level of stability in order to be processed for a long time and evenly.
Over the years, TAKA has developed a specialised product range for construction adhesives that can be used easily and reliably in various production environments. With a view to occupational safety, we have developed our own ‘low emission’ product series of monomer-reduced PUR adhesives, which have a free monomeric diisocyanate content of less than 0.1%. These so-called micro-emission adhesives do not require labelling and do not carry any hazardous substance labels. In addition, ME adhesives do not require the mandatory training for the safe handling of isocyanate-containing products.
